Alfalfa Pellet Mill

Alfalfa is an important forage crop belonging to legume family, widely cultivated in many countries around the world including America, United Kingdom, Africa, New Zealand, and Africa etc. It is also called Lucerne in some places.

How Alfalfa Pellets Are Made By Feed Pellet Mill?
Alfalfa / Hay Grass → Crushing → Drying → Pelletizing → Cooling → Alfalfa Pellets → Packaging

Dry the Alfalfa / Hay Grass

The moisture of the alfalfa hay should be dried to around 15%. Both higher or lower water content can affect the qualtiy of produced alfalfa pellets. For mini to small scale production, dry in the air is ok. For middle-large size alfalfa hay pellet plant, dryer machine is suggested to improve the production efficient.

Crush the Alfalfa / Hay Grass

Crushing the alfalfa hay to small powder by using grass crushing machine to make it suitable for alfalfa feed pellet machine.

Make the Alfalfa Powder into Pellets

Finially, the alfalfa can be feed into the feed pellet machine. We have flat die type feed mill for home use and ring die feed mill for industiral feed pellet plant.

Alfalfa Pellet Mill for Sale

We offer two kinds of small alfalfa / lucerne pellet machine, one is rotating die type and the other is rotating roller type. They are widely at home, on farm and also common used in small cattle feed pellet plant. How to Setup a Alfalfa Hay Pellet Mill Plant?

This is a 1-2 ton per hour feed pellet mill plant established in Uganda. We have also help one of our clients in the Philippines build their Napier Grass pellets making factory. Send us an inquiry if you are interested to get the project report and cost details to setup a similar feed manufacturing factory. (Related Project: Elephent Grass Pellet Production Plant )

The following is the scientific classification of alfalfa grass:

Kingdom: Plantae.Division: Magnoliophyta.Class: Magnoliopsida.Subclass: Aosidae.Order: Fava.Family: Fabaceae. Subfamily: Faboideae.Tribe: Rifolieae.Genus: Medicago.Species: Medicago sativa.Binomial name: Medicago sativa.

In fact, it is the only forage pellets that is made and sold in every country.

Alfalfa Pellets, Granules or Cubes

Alfalfa pellet millcan help you make dehydrated alfalfa hay into pellets or granules easily. Generally, the diameter of alfalfa pellets is made to be 6-8mm. Dehydrated alfalfa granules are ideal fodder for rabbits, ostriches, goats, pigs, sheep…

Pellets form can largely reduce transport costs;Make animal feeding easier and cleaner;Enables the distribution of a protein food as a concentrate;Prevents acidosis;

Why Choose Alfalfa For Making Animal Feed Pellets?

Alfalfa hay is the forage plant par excellence. It has great nutritional properties which makes it the perfect choice for making animal feed pellets.

High in nutrients: Alfalfa is an excellent source of vegetable protein, energy, vitamins, and minerals for animals including horse, pig and poultry. Besides, it is also rich in many other nutrients such as magnesium, molybdenum, sulfur, boron, calcium, potassium and phosphorus, etc. All these nutrients are good for animal healthy.

Rich in fiber: For ruminant animals, the fiber in alfalfa is fermentable by the large intestine and their digestibility can be highly improved in this way. The intake of fiber in animal feed is based on the particle size of the feed pellets.

Good for animals’ healthy: It is found that alfalfa has buffering effects on stomach acid, helping to reduce the incidence and severity of gastric ulcers.

If you want to feed your animal with Alfalfa Pellets, there are two things to consider: Firstly change over to it gradually, and secondly try to limit it at first because its tastiness might lead to overeat. As a side benefit, alfalfa hay pellets are great ways to add water into forage as pellets can be soaked before feeding. (Read more about chicken feed making machine)

Drawbacks Of Making Feed Pellets From Alfalfa

Alfalfa does provide a large amount of calories. However, if don’t burn the calories by taking exercise, it could result in weight gain. And gaining weight might be bad for some animal such as race-horse.Because of its high calcium content, when making alfalfa pellets, it is necessary to keep an eye on the calcium-phosphorous ratio in the raw material mixture.
